![]() IS&T is working diligently to provide the IT capabilities essential for MIT to conduct its mission and operations at this time. The ability to bring the Zoom platform to the entire MIT community within a matter of a few days, would simply not have been possible without our Sloan colleagues, and for that we all owe them a debt of thanks. Sloan’s experience has been invaluable in their early embrace of the Zoom platform and its integration in the evolution of their academic programs. We would like to thank Wes Esser and his Sloan Technology Services team for their partnership and support in bringing the Zoom service to the MIT community. MIT community members who have questions or need assistance using Zoom can contact the IS&T Service Desk. Faculty and course instructors who need help facilitating remote classes can send mail to or call 61 (617-32-HELP-U). IS&T offers 24x7 community support for Zoom. Other online resources include Zoom’s Getting Started page, the MIT Sloan Guide to Teaching Virtually with Zoom and Canvas!, and the Zoom Landing Page in the Knowledge Base. It includes tips on using Zoom to teach troubleshooting tips accessibility suggestions and Zoom support and tutorials. MIT’s Instructional Continuity website has a section on using Zoom. As MIT works to move its academic programs and activities online, Zoom offers a strong capability to record and store video content that should be incredibly helpful during this challenging transition. The license MIT has acquired for Zoom provides faculty and staff the ability to conduct online meetings of up to 500 participants and other members of the MIT community the ability to conduct online meetings of up to 300 participants. Zoom users may hold a virtual webinar or meeting and share files or use screen sharing to show presentations, applications, or other web sites. Zoom enables video and audio conferencing, collaboration, chat, and webinars across mobile devices, desktops, telephones, and room systems. Zoom joins the portfolio of collaboration services centrally offered to the entirety of the MIT community that already includes Webex. Access to Zoom is available via and MIT community members can access the service by authenticating through Touchstone. It is being made available to all MIT faculty, students, staff and also to affiliates engaged in or supporting MIT’s teaching and learning activities. To mitigate the impacts of COVID-19, MIT is making concerted efforts to provide a range of IT resources to the MIT community, both to ensure continuity of MIT’s mission and to best support our community as they engage in their MIT activities remotely.īased on widespread feedback from the MIT community, IS&T has secured an enterprise license for Zoom.
